Dear Grade 8 Parents/Guardians:
Tutorial has now started up at Burnaby North and will run every Wednesday morning from October to the end of April from 8:40 – 9:26am.
The purpose of grade 8 tutorial is twofold: connect grade 8s with senior mentors from the Mentorship class, and offer additional academic support for your child.
Mentors, senior students, give up their own tutorial time to ensure that grade 8s feel connected and supported. Sometimes tutorial will offer study time, but Mentors also create activities as icebreakers to build community or offer lessons on topics such as styles of learning, study guide tips, and growth versus fixed mindset. As well, we will have some guest speakers and other learning opportunities.
To ensure the success of tutorial time, we ask that you have a conversation with your child about arriving on time with homework, work to review, or a book to read. In particular, if you could discuss responsible cell phone use, it would be appreciated.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the school, or email the Mentorship teacher, Elizabeth Byrne, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
