Parent Session–Grief & Mental Health in Teens–Dec. 9, 7pm (RSVP by Dec. 6)

As we continue to support the Burnaby North community in responding to the sudden death of a Grade 8 student, the District Critical Incident Response Team and Burnaby North Secondary staff will be hosting a discussion on supporting your child through grief and understanding mental health in youth. The evening is designed to provide additional support to families who have been reaching out with questions. Parents have been asking about supporting their child with grieving and coming to terms with a loss made all the more difficult because the Grade 8 student attempted to take her own life.

This community event will:

  • outline the role of schools in supporting and responding to grieving students,
  • include a presentation from the Crisis Centre on supporting grieving children and their families,
  • have several local mental health service providers speak about youth mental health and how to support a child who may be in crisis or is struggling with suicide ideation, and
  • provide emotional support in a private space for families wishing to reach out and connect to community supports.

When: Monday December 9, 2019 from 7-8:00 pm

Where: Burnaby North Secondary

In an effort to ensure we have adequate space and refreshments, please RSVP to Tina.Scaccia@burnabyschools.ca by Friday December 6th 2019.
