Vehicle Access to the New Building

Please be advised of the new traffic patterns in and around our campus. When entering the site from Hammarskjold, traffic for Staff/Guest Parking and Thru-Traffic Only must keep left.  Drop-off traffic must keep to the right lane only.

Staff can access two parking lots adjacent to the new building (old North lot, new south lot off of Curtis–see image below).  NOTE: The south lot is shared with NBAEC and the Daycare so may have traffic at times that do not coincide with BNS events.  Also, the driveway from the North lot to the South lot & Exit may be in use by construction/delivery vehicles, so proceed with caution.  Vehicles can access the site only from Hammarskjold Drive or Curtis Street.  The school no longer has any vehicle access from Kensington Avenue.

Dear Families:

As the excitement builds about the move to our new school, I’m writing to share an update.

The construction company expects occupancy permits later this month. In anticipation of that, we are proceeding with plans to move to our new school over winter break.

As you can imagine, the transition into a new school building involves many moving parts, and as such, please plan for changes to students’ routines during the first days back. We’re planning for all classes to learn remotely on both January 8 and January 9. Your child’s teacher will reach out about the specifics regarding remote learning for their class. Additionally, students should also expect to be scheduled for an orientation about the new building on January 9. Details regarding orientation times will be shared before school resumes after winter break.

I appreciate that this disruption to normal routines is not easy for students and families, and I thank you for your patience and support throughout this project.

I remain committed to keeping you informed as we near the much-anticipated finish line on this project. Like you, I am looking forward to seeing our school community settled in our state-of-the-art new school.

Please feel free to contact me if you any questions or concerns.

Sincerely,

Curtis Hodgson

Principal, Burnaby North Secondary
