On Tuesday September 17th, Grade 8 students will have an exciting opportunity to participate in Burnaby North’s annual Grade 8 Retreat. The retreat will take place at Confederation Park in Burnaby.

The purpose of the retreat is to provide Grade 8 students with an opportunity to get to
know one another, to develop a sense of connectedness with classmates, and to learn about the expectations and responsibilities of Burnaby North students.

On the day of the retreat, we are asking that students be dropped off and picked up at Confederation Park, East Parking lot, next to Confederation Park Elementary School off Beta Avenue:

Leadership students / teacher will meet them and direct them to the Sports Box, our first meeting spot. At this point, students will be arranged into groups in which they will rotate through four activities over the course of the day.

The retreat will take place rain or shine, so be sure to bring weather-appropriate clothing: a rain jacket, sunscreen, and plenty of water.

Pizza-lunch will be provided; please, indicate specific allergies on the permission form. Regardless of weather, please bring supportive and comfortable footwear (i.e. running or hiking shoes) as a significant portion of the day will be spent outdoors.

For the duration of the retreat, we ask that all electronic devices be left at home as they can be easily lost and are not permitted to be used during class time/activities.

Please complete the field trip form for this event and have your child return it to their PHE teacher or Ms. Berning in the PHE office as soon as possible (no later than Tuesday, September 17th to Ms Lidder in the Office–Reception).

Be sure to note any medical concerns on the field trip form and send students with any personal medical items (e.g. inhaler, epi-pen) if required. Alternative learning activities will be provided for students who do not attend the retreat, regular grade 8 classes will not run that day. More information regarding the retreat will follow in September.

We look forward to having your child participate in the Grade 8 Retreat.  If you have any questions, please feel free to contact either of the organisers: Mr Callister (VP), Ms Berning (PHE Dept. Head)
