On Friday Feb. 24, TECK incorp. opened their doors and gave a great tour to a group of students from Burnaby North (from RETHINK, the Enviro Club and Leadership). The tour of the TECK pilot plant, gave a spectacular look at a modern “Low pollution” refinery. Students got to see a refinery that process gold, silver and copper from (toxic) ores and locks the arsenic poison into a safe state. The tour gave students a look at science solving an environmental problem, when pollution control in the mining industry is becoming increasingly alarming.
