Tutorial Day–Begins this Wednesday | Burnaby North Secondary School

Tutorial Days are scheduled every Wednesday from October to May. This time permits the grade 8 groups to work with their mentors, grades 9-12 students to study and complete assignments, and teachers to collaborate on professional development initiatives.

Students should arrive on time, ready to complete work for their courses, read silently, collaborate with their groups on projects, or pursue their inquiry projects. Bring all your materials for Tutorial AND what you will need for period 1 (only 5 minutes between them).

Gr. 8-10: Where do I go for Tutorial?

1. Find the sheet with your grade. (updated).
2. Locate the range of last names which includes your last name.
3. Find the room number to the right.
4. Don’t forget to check the list of exceptions!

Room Placements (updated) also will be posted throughout the school.

NOTE: Computer labs are reserved for teachers during tutorial. The library is reserved for grade 12 students.

GRADE 11s

Please KEEP OUT OF THE HALLS between 8:40 and 9:26.
If you choose to be at school during Tutorial Classes, please go to one of the following areas:

 Room 303 (Math/Science focus)
 Room 307 (Humanities/Languages focus)

GRADE 12s

Please KEEP OUT OF THE HALLS between 8:40 and 9:26.
If you choose to be at school during Tutorial Classes, please go to one of the following areas:

 North Cafeteria,
 South Cafeteria.

Tutorial Expectations

Arrive on time
No food or drink
Gr. 9-10 only: Only 2 transfers allowed per room within the first five minutes only (first come, first served)
Be respectful of your environment and clean up after yourself. Return desks/furniture to original positions.
Be respectful of classmates and your tutorial leaders
Arrive with enough work/reading /supplies for the full 45 minutes

Effective use of tutorial time includes:

1. completing homework, assignments and/or projects;
2. organizing notes and/or notebooks;
3. reviewing previously taught material; and,
4. reading a book or magazine silently.

Collaborative Time for Teachers

During Tutorial Time for students, Teaching Staff are meeting in small groups to work on a variety of professional projects. Please remember that teachers are not to be disturbed during Collaborative Time.
