On Tuesday September 19th, Grade 8 students will have an exciting opportunity to participate in
Burnaby North’s annual Grade 8 Retreat. The retreat will take place at təmtəmíxʷtən/Belcarra
Regional Park.

The purpose of the retreat is to provide Grade 8 students with an opportunity to get to
know one another, to develop a sense of connectedness with classmates, and to learn about the expectations and responsibilities of Burnaby North students.

On the day of the retreat, students should report to the South Gym by 8:00 a.m. At this point,
students will be arranged into groups and loaded on to buses that will take them to the mountain.
The retreat will take place rain or shine, so be sure to bring weather-appropriate clothing: a rain
jacket, sunscreen, bug repellent, and plenty of water. Regardless of weather, please bring
supportive and comfortable footwear (i.e. running or hiking shoes) as a significant portion of the day will be spent outdoors. Students will also need to bring their own lunch, as food is not available for purchase at təmtəmíxʷtən/Belcarra Regional Park. For the duration of the retreat, we ask that all electronic devices be left at home as they can be easily lost.

Please complete the field trip form (see reverse) for this event and have your child return it to their PHE
teacher, Ms Becker in the main office, or Ms. Berning in the Sports Center – South Building as
soon as possible (no later than Tuesday, September 19th). Ms. Berning and PHE teachers can
also provide blank forms if needed.

Be sure to note any medical concerns on the field trip form and send students any personal
medical items (e.g. inhaler, epi-pen) if required. Alternative learning activities will be provided for
students who do not attend the retreat, regular grade 8 classes will not run that day. More
information regarding the retreat will follow in September.
